David Malmuth: Interview With The Man Who Built Ovation Hollywood, Home Of The Oscars, On San Diego And Oakland, And Saving California Cities David Malmuth is one of my all-time-favorite large scale mixed use developers. I originally met him via a cold call I made to him when I was Economic Advisor to Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris. Eager to rehabilitate Uptown Oakland, I managed to catch Mr. Malmuth while he was driving. He asked me to give him a quick explanation of why he should be involved in developing Uptown, and I did. He said, as I recall, "Well, I'm in the middle of building the new home of the Academy Awards, so if I can't get this done, let's talk." Well, he got it done. The development known as Holllywood and Highland and now Ovation Hollywood, has come to be an indelible part of American Culture. In so many ways, large and small, it has went from being a part of Hollywood, to defining it. Since then, Mr. Malmuth has been at the center of a number of iconic projects that "Creating art-inspired places that transform communities", and has something interesting going on in San Diego, which we will talk about. In total, David Malmuth studied psychology and philosophy at Claremont McKenna and business at Stanford, went into consulting, and then put what he learned to work in his true passion, real-estate development. Over the ensuing years, he served as VP-Marketing for McCarthy Building Companies in St. Louis and Newport Beach and Vice-President/ General Manager of Disney Development Company in Burbank where he led the renovation of New York City’s New Amsterdam Theatre. As Senior Vice President of TrizecHahn Development, he was the key executive directing the development of Hollywood and Highland and the Kodak Theatre complex. For seven years Malmuth was Managing Director of RCLCO Development Services Group. In 2010 Malmuth established his own firm, David Malmuth Development, LLC with a single focus: to lead in the creation of art-inspired places that transform communities. He is currently driving the entitlement process on second+pch in Long Beach and with his partner, Pete Garcia, is leading in the creation of the I.D.E.A. in San Diego. This starts because, as many of you know, I am a big fans of women bodybuilding, and athletic, strong members of the fairer sex since I was 14 years old. Back then, I saw Steve Wenerstrom’s Women’s Physique World, and my life was changed. I always expected women who worked out to not be racist, and from my experience that has never been the case. Until now, that is. Fast forward to today, and I am a fan of one particular website called Herbicepscam.com. It’s a site that features some of the most iconic female bodybuilders and fit models. Names like Alessia Young, Deborah Bramwell, Yvette Bova, and Julia Flory. I could never understand how guys could be into male bodybuilders and not women bodybuilders. Just seems weird to me. Anyway, yes, I am single black and male. Dated female bodybuilders, but nothing led to marriage - just friendships with some very driven women. Very innovative and in their occupations successful. If they hit a bump, they go around it. That’s why I can’t get Jillian. She is on HBC but elected not to compete. Anyway, has always been pleasant: until a few days ago when she just came out of a bag and said how much she hated black men. Just out of the blue. All kinds of disgusting stuff that no one should hear. Look, the weirdest thing about all of this is the stupid stigma some, including a few women’s bodybuilders, place on the very men who like them. Why? No one ever talks about the guys who are into male bodybuilders. I could never get that. I also can’t get men who want to compare their muscles to women like Blakelee Ortega and Theresa Ivancik, two of the sweetest female bodybuilders one would ever come to know. I write this and think of Richard Goodman, an Oakland photographer, who I met back in the 90s. I went over to his house because I had an idea for a women’s bodybuilding contest. Instead, this dude shows me his book full of black male bodybuilders! I stopped the conversation and asked him why he wasn’t into women? And he’s married! I politely excused myself and left. I was there for 10 minutes total. Women’s bodybuilding is a $5 billion industry in my opinion. Women are now openly embracing building muscle. It’s really awesome to see how society has changed. But what can not be allowed is harm to come to fans like me. Abuse like what Jill gave out is not unusual, according to my simple search-based research. Stopping racism and women telling lies about people - maybe as the result of a drug problem - has to be the goal of Herbicepscam and other sites. I am not on OnlyFans, but I have found videos making complaints about personalities there. Men, especially black men, deserve a safe space. Or, considering all of the problems we face, safe spaces!

We should provide all necessary resources and use our modern-day technology to stop this daily assault on citizens. All of our families, Individuals, and specifically our children deserve to feel and be safe in their own cities and neighborhoods. I believe these assaults on citizens, just trying to live their lives, are not coincidental but organized, and it will take an organized coalition of law enforcement and concerned citizens working together to stop them. Our laws promoted wrap-around services for the victims of Human Trafficking our children, and give Law enforcement and the District Attorney offices in our State the tools necessary to arrest, prosecute and convict those that are guilty of victimizing our children. Our communities in Northern California are the hub for Human Trafficking, the epicenter of this insidious criminal activity. Human Trafficking is not only victimizing our children, it is also funding an underground economy of crime, that must be stopped. Citizens should not fear going shopping; driving home from work and being hijacked; Asian American seniors and other seniors must not be victims of random assaults; our children victimized by indiscriminate gunfire; parents afraid to let their children play in their front yards or at the park; our businesses afraid to open their doors and having to change to early operating hours only; and our children today are increasingly becoming victims of kidnapping. This all must stop. It is time for all of us to help and build a cooperative working relationship between law enforcement and our citizens with a safe community environment being our goal. These organized assaults on our community deserve an organized, comprehensive, and well-funded response. Several months ago I called for a crime task force. I am calling again for a comprehensive “Crime Task Force” that would include; Homeland Security (DHS), FBI, our local Police Departments, County Sheriff’s Offices, State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the State Attorney General’s office, District Attorney’s Offices, the Governor’s office, and community-based citizen advisers to end our current crime wave. As a candidate for the California State Senate, I have said “Our children, seniors and families must be safe in everyday life.” That’s why the largest federation of local, state and federal public safety associations, Peace Officers Research Association of California, the California Highway Patrol and the Oakland Police Officers Association have all endorsed me for State Senate and trust my zero-tolerance approach to violence and crime.
