Oakland Lesleigh Franklin Threatens Jordan Cordova For Parking While Brown, Racism Is Mental Illness Oakland, once again, the the focus of a viral video of a racist incident captured on social media.  The viral video was made by Oakland's Jordan Cordova and his friends are being harassed by Lesleigh Franklin, and for nothing more than parking their car in an open public spot, which just happened to be in front of Ms. Franklin's home.  This happened on Saturday, August 4th.  Mr. Cordova posted his account on Facebook: "On Saturday August 4th, my family and I were on our way to a party. So we parked on public parking, in front of the white womans house in this video. This woman began to confront us and began yelling at us without reason. Keep in mind that as soon as I saw her come out of her home, I sincerely asked her why she wanted us to leave. Never did i disrespect her in any way. She wanted us to leave, as we refused she approached our car and tried to open the doors. That's when I began recording because we felt attacked and we know these situations have happened already to black and brown people because of how we look. This woman targeted us AND even questioned our status in this country. I ask people to share and find who this women who claims is immigrants attorney. Quick Note: I am a High School Student and a proud Salvadorean in East Oakland California." Lesleigh Franklin, the woman,  is not an immigration lawyer,  Lesleigh Franklin is, and now was, the CEO of The East Bay Family Institute, and a licensed clinical psychologist who has described herself as "working with diverse populations in both school based and clinical settings for over 20 years."  It was, until recently and after this incident, a position she held since 2010.  On her Linkedin page, Romana A. Norton, Ph.D. described Lesleigh Franklin as a "Incredible colleague with a passion for social justice."  Marisol Reyna, is both Lesleigh Franklin's partner and the co-founder of The East Bay Family Institute.  And there's a photo of Franklin spread on a lawn chair on Reyna's Facebook page.  Reyna has reported that Franklin stepped away from the business, but given that they are co-founders and live-together, such a claim may be to put up a cosmetic front that she's separated from the business which she's really a part of it -  and perhaps to protect Franklin from the public complaints against her.  Another Racist Incident In Oakland First, it must be said that being in an interracial relationship does not wash-away any person's desire to be racist.  I recall the late sports anchor Doug Murphy of KPIX San Francisco, who used to come to the old King's X Bar on Piedmont and Pleasant Valley in Oakland after work, get drunk, and refer to his Indonisian wife (who was not in the bar with him) in the most vile, racist language he could come up with, then loudly proclaim he loved her.  Second, the unanswered question is why are these occurences suddenly, this year, springing up?  t's noted that extreme racism is a mental illness, but why do more of these problems happen now?  Is it increased drug use in the wake of legalized marijuana?  Many drug use studies focus on racism as a cause of drug use of people of color but does increased drug use make a person more racist?  Something, clearly, is wrong.  It should be illegal in Oakland for a person to threaten to use law enforcement against a person taking on a common social action, like parking the car in a legally designated area, or cooking in a legal area, or sitting at a bus stop.   The Oakland Cty Council must take steps to stop this behavior in its tracks.  Stay tuned. Steven Hill's Las Vegas Stadium Authority Gives Oakland Coliseum JPA Masterclass In Organization The Wednesday October 25th meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority was one Oakland A's Fans should have watched if only to see how a plan to approve and finance a stadium in a public / private partnership comes together. The lesson is one that the Howard Terminal staffers (some of whom are gone like the project manager) could learn from. And the Oakland Coliseum JPA too. The Oakland Coliseum JPA is not set up to be a Stadium Authority from the standpoint of creating agreements or a construction review process. But a public financing authority of the one called for in the case of an expanded Oakland Coliseum JPA would have staff with that capability. The Las Vegas Stadium Authority set course to do the following; 1) Approve the lease agreement. 2) Alter the Las Vegas Stadium Authority to accomodate the Oakland A's Ballpark 3) Approve the agreements with lawyers and consultants to do 1 and 2 and other related agreements. 4) Serve as a monitor of the project from start to groundbreaking, to opening. They've done this before. The Las Vegas Stadium Authority was created for the construction of Allegiant Stadium. The people hired to do the process the first time were simply rehired the second time. Contrary to new observers, these are not lawyers doing a job any attorney can do. They have to have experience working as the go-between for municipalities and the public and the legal system. San Francisco after the devastating earthquake in 1906 like you've never seen before in color! [HD] - ATLNews

Over the past month this has been one of our major film restoration projects. Most films about the 1906 earth quake are of extremely poor quality. We have let our restoration and colorization skills run free on that material in an attempt to bring it back to new life. Obviously miracles can not be expected, but by motion-stabilizing, speed-correcting, A.I. enhancing and A.I. colorizing these films, it has become more bareable to watch (at least we think so). The 1906 earth quake occured along the infamous San Andreas vault and struck the San Francisco area early in the morning of the 18th of April 1906. The magnitude of the quake has been estimated to be 7.9 on the Richter scale. More than 3,000 people died and over 80% of the city of San Francisco was destroyed. This film shows the tragic aftermath whereby survivors are trying to simply survive among the rubble. A few days later the army brought in supplies. People can be seen waiting in queues for food and being temporarily housed in tent camps that were erected to house about 20.000 people. Many fled the city by ferry to cross the bay to (presumed) safer regions. One remarkable thing stands out while watching this footage and that is how dignified the San Franciscans appear to behave and how well-dressed many of them still are. The film also shows early activities to start removing remains of buildings and rubble. One famous scene shows a journey by car through Market Street right up to the Ferry building at the harbour. This footage has often been compared with another film that was shot just days before the earth quake and can be found on dozens of channels on Youtube, even in colorized 4K 60fps format. Why The Digital Commerce Industry Should Back The SAG-AFTRA Strike - ATLNews

The Screen Actors Guild Strike, otherwise known as The SAG-AFTRA Strike, has received a lot of coverage, but almost little study of how an increased use of artificial intelligence would impact the bottom line of not just actors and writers, but the digital commerce industy as a whole. How? Because the digital commerce industry does make its money off celebrity. So, consider what happened when a star is no longer on the annual red carpet circuit because its studio controls that actor's image, and can solely make money from that image, and cut out digital commerce / media organizations. The end result could be the very cratering of the celebrity content industry as we know it. Think hard about what that means. It means that photographers who make their money from celebrity sitings would realize squeezed revenues. It means the images of celebrities who were knighted in England could be made to take on actions that could cost that celebrity such a designation. The studio that controls that actor's image could engineer such a scenario just because the actor fell into disfavor for whatever reason. Take a read at how a forfeture of a UK knighthood could happen, courtesy of the main page itself: There is an expectation that those who receive an honour are, and will continue to be, good citizens and role models. An honour can be withdrawn (or ‘forfeited’) for a variety of reasons, including criminal conviction and bringing the honours system into disrepute. Only living individuals are able to forfeit their honour. It is not possible to withdraw an honour from someone who has died. However, the Forfeiture Committee can consider specific cases where a recipient has been accused of a crime after their death, with a view to issuing a statement that confirms action would have been taken had that individual been convicted. A decision to forfeit an honour can be based on events that pre-date the award (for example, a past criminal conviction, even if spent), or conduct that occurs after the award is made. The Forfeiture Committee considers cases put to it when the holder of an honour has brought the honours system into disrepute. It will automatically consider cases where an individual: has been found guilty by the courts of a criminal offence and sentenced to a term of imprisonment of more than three months; has been censured or struck off by the relevant regulatory authority or professional body, for actions or failures to act, especially which are directly relevant to the granting of the honour; has been found guilty by the courts of a criminal offence covered by the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (England and Wales), Sexual Offences Order 2008 (Northern Ireland) or Sexual Offences Act 2009 (Scotland); has been found to have committed a sexual act which is listed in the Acts above following a ‘trial of the facts’. The Committee is not an investigatory body – it does not decide whether or not someone is guilty or innocent of a particular act. Instead, it reflects the findings of official investigations and makes a recommendation of whether or not the honours system has been brought into disrepute. Please bear in mind that personal disputes are not likely to be a reason to forfeit an honour. The Committee’s recommendations for forfeiture are submitted through the Prime Minister to the King. If the King gives his approval, a notice of forfeiture is usually placed in the London Gazette. Note: The Forfeiture Committee Is Not An Investigative Body, Meaning The Actor Can Be Harmed Without Recourse Consider what was just presented and realize that the UK Government has not added any provisions to consider the possible negative role of artificial intelligence. Movie producer's A.I. desires place knighted performers in harms way unless the rules are adjusted. The question is, will they be? Right now, no one knows. But what we do know is that, as of this writing, movie producers do not care to protect actors from misuse of a digital image, let alone use it to avoid paying the actor. Governments and digital commerce industry players must think completely about the rapid advance of artificial intelligence and work on legislation that protects the possibility that their very culture could be altered by images out of control of the performer. The news was as exciting as it was controversial because of the white tech-hipster clientele The Battery SF was known for and the seeming clash with Oakland’s intensely anti-gentrification crowd. I met and really hit it off with Michael, who was jazzed over the challenge of establishing the Battery Oakland. He said it would take two years to get off the ground. Two years later and a viewer asked what happened to The Birch’s plan for Oakland. I reached out via email and got this answer: Hi Zennie Unfortunately not any real progress. It's on pause for now as our focus lies elsewhere and we're waiting to see what happens with the economy. It doesn't feel like the right time to open a club or to invest that much in real estate since it needs a significant amount of work. Michael So, if there was ever a sign that Oakland was about to become East San Francisco and gain a higher income crowd, The Battery Oakland would have been it. But now that it’s not happening, I can’t help but feel sad about the news. It’s happening because of problems like the economic downturn but also ones that Michaël is too polite to point to: excessive crime and business disinvestment in Oakland. Sad stuff Oakland’s Government could correct if it stopped playing the information denier game. Mayor Sheng Thao has to take the red pill. Stay tuned.
