Miya Saika Chen Mayor Lee Chief Of Staff 1st Asian Female COS For An Oakland Mayor In City’s History Oakland - Mayor-elect Barbara Lee announced the first appointment to her Mayoral office team, naming Miya Saika Chen as Chief of Staff. An Oakland native, attorney, and legislative staff veteran, Saika Chen brings over two decades of experience in local, state, and federal government. “I’m proud to announce the appointment of Miya Saika Chen as Chief of Staff. Miya understands how to work across City departments to get things done,” said Mayor-elect Barbara Lee. “Her extensive community network and relationships within Oakland’s strong base of nonprofits, small business and community stakeholders will help ensure a broad cross section of the community joining us for the hard work ahead.” Added Mayor-elect Lee, “Miya is a very practical leader with a skillset that is inclusive, strategic, and results-driven. She’ll bring no-nonsense judgement towards addressing Oakland’s toughest issues – public safety, homelessness, and safe, clean streets.” Saika Chen’s announcement follows the launch of Mayor-elect Barbara Lee’s transition committee and the announcement of forthcoming working groups focused on key priorities including: Arts/Culture; Good Governance; Housing Development, Preservation, and Affordability; Homelessness, Encampments, and Blight; Interfaith Advisory Council; Jobs/ Economic Development; Large Employer; Public-Private Partnerships; Public Safety; Police and Fire Task Force; Small Business; Technology; and the Youth Advisory Council. “Oakland has shaped who I am – as a daughter, working mom, and public servant,” said Saika Chen. “I’m honored to join Mayor-elect Lee’s administration to use my hands-on experience to help make City government more responsive and accountable to the people it serves.” Added Saika Chen, “I’m excited to support our Mayor-elect’s vision of unifying our community as One Oakland across our diverse constituencies, neighborhoods, Labor and Business to secure the results Oaklanders deserve.”
