But, Thao, again determined to make it about her agenda and not about economic development, threw up a wild request for the A's to pay $97 million, or what she says that John Fisher claims was the dollar amount loss in trying to do Howard Terminal. Aside from the fact that it is an illogical reason, the other problem is that the A's have nothing to do with the City of Oakland's budget deficit. Yet, the $97 million was going to be used to pay down part of the $162 million shortfall. Even though the matter wasn't brought up until the third meeting of the parties on Monday, the fact that there was no one who countered the proposal made it all the more worse. Watching all of this was Vivek Ranadive, Once he got Kaval and Fisher in the room it became sports owner to sports owner. No public officials in the room. So, no surprise, they managed to hammer out a deal without drama. To say it was a new world to John Fisher and Dave Kaval is an understatement. Meanwhile, the City of Oakland is left in a situation that it is going to put on a good face about, but the damage to the Mayor's already bad reputation is evident. Mayor Thao does not follow the law, she is content to do what she wants to do, and that's that. Her way is not mature - there's no other word to use.
