Oakland News Now Daily Jan 16 2023: Paul Cobb And MLK, ATV Motorbikers Strike Lake Merritt Again This is the second edition of what is a daily video-blog in the tradition of Rocketboom and called Oakland News Now Daily with some Herb Caen mixed in. And since what Rocketboom was and who Herb Caen is (I prefer that to “was”), let's get started. ITEM 50 ATV Motorbike Owners once again rode their vehicles along a patch of land at Hanover and Lakeshore, and messed up the grass something terrible. Since that's City of Oakland property, shouldn't the police set up a way to protect it? Like a sign saying “no motorbike riding” and random patrols matching the times the motorbikers normally come over? ITEM Will Mayor Sheng Thao get the Oakland Police to find a white 2016 Hyundai Accent with the license plate CA BEFD545? It was stolen last night, 20 hours ago. ITEM Steer clear of 1240-1250 Alvarado Road Claremont Canyon, Berkeley, CA. The Moses-level rains have caused a good portion of the hillside to spill over and block the road. ITEM Mickey, a blonde six-year-old French Bull Dog was stolen on January 8th at 5910 International Blvd. If found or spotted call 510-504-9996 or email DT.GRPS@gmail.com ITEM This is Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday. Did you know Oakland Post Publisher Paul Cobb actually knew and marched with Dr. King? Yep. Paul and I talked about that in 2007, and here's the video – please watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFEDJaW8M74 REPEAT ITEM Yes, as I vlog this, I'm in Fayette County, Georgia, helping my 88-year-old Mom while still keeping my place in Oakland (no mean trick) and once again, North Georgia has been haunted by tornados. Mom and I are safe, but the folks who need help are the ones who lost their entire homes last week. Folks like Valerie Joslin – she and her husband lost their home of 20 years. So, if you're able, go to GoFundMe.com, search “georgia tornado” and help out. REPEAT ITEM The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted to recount the votes cast in the November 8th Election. Fine, but why so coy about when the recount process starts? And what happens if Loren Taylor wins? I'm told he would have to go to court to get Sheng, as they say, “up out of that seat” - and she would certainly file a legal challenge to that. Would they get a judge who didn't vote for one or the other? What a mess. REPEAT ITEM Oakland Raiders Owner and once Oaklander Mark Davis said that he's upset that the crowds at Allegiant Stadium are mostly dressed in the colors of the opposing team, like the Kansas City Chiefs, and remarked that it's not like it was in Oakland. Did Mark Davis just sound the call for The Raiders eventual return to Oakland? File this one under “Shouldn't have left, but you're team's worth $5 billion now”.
