Oakland’s Howard Terminal Could Host More Events Like This Festival In Portland - by Richard Haick
With ~15 acres of publicly accessible waterfront parks at Oakland’s Howard Terminal, events similar to Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival could be something seen regularly. Larger events could cover the entire range of the development from the park space, to the actual ballpark itself. I think it’s important to highlight the happenings in other cities to gain perspective about what’s happening around our own Town. When visiting San Diego’s PetCo Park, in 2016, I immediately saw the promise of what Howard Terminal could become. San Diego’s Gaslamp District has a lot of similarities to the Jack London Square area. Coronado island, across the canal from PetCo, is eerily similar to Alameda. The possibilities were further cemented when visiting Wrigley Field and the Wrigleyville neighborhood. Furthermore, Oakland can take a page from T-Mobile Park and Seattle and learn to coexist with their neighbors at the Port.
