Saints Teaching Jameis Winston Classic Bill Walsh-Style Timed Pass In Training Camp
Saints Teaching Jameis Winston Classic Bill Walsh-Style Timed Pass In Training Camp Sports reporters today have training camp all wrong. Training camp is used to teach concept important to the coaching staff’s schemes and objectives. In that view it’s clear the Saints are teaching Jameis Winston a key part of their passing offense: Bill Walsh-style timed passing. In the video Winston is shown taking five steps back, then as he is going into the fifth step, Jameis throws the ball without taking what is called a hitch step. He plant off his back foot as he completes the dropback and the ball is gone. That is a first in Winston’s career. In the past with the Bucs such attention to precise footwork was not done. It is with The Saints. This is what Drew Brees and Taysom Hill are used to in Saints training camp, but Winston is putting in overtime to learn it. That’s why he spent 20 minutes after practice going over it. If Jameis Winston masters footwork Bill Walsh-style he will be one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL. This is a big deal folks. Jameis is learning how to throw the classic Bill Walsh-style timed pass. Throwing without a hitch step is not easy but the results pay dividends. Just ask Joe Montana and Steve Young. Stay tuned.
