In the video Winston is shown taking five steps back, then as he is going into the fifth step, Jameis throws the ball without taking what is called a hitch step. He plant off his back foot as he completes the dropback and the ball is gone. That is a first in Winston’s career. In the past with the Bucs such attention to precise footwork was not done. It is with The Saints. This is what Drew Brees and Taysom Hill are used to in Saints training camp, but Winston is putting in overtime to learn it. That’s why he spent 20 minutes after practice going over it. If Jameis Winston masters footwork Bill Walsh-style he will be one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL.
