Dave Kaval Signs For Oakland A's To Play In Sacramento 2025 As Mayor Sheng Thao Blows It Again The press release was just issued, and thus puts a nail in the coffin. It reads "Sutter Heath Park To Host A's Baseball = West Sacramento MLB-ready Stadium to serve as "home away from home" for three seasons with an option for a fourth season. Oakland A's President Dave Kaval signed the agreement April 3rd and at the close of a successful meeting with Vivek Ranadive the majority owner and chairman of the Sacramento Kings. "Today marks the next chapter of professional sports in Sacramento" said Ranadive . For the A's part, MLB issued these words more of news than celebration: The A's will begin playing in West Sacramento at the start of the 2025 MLB season and will continue until their permanent home in Las Vegas is ready to welcome fans, which is projected for Opening Day 2028. While ticket pricing and ticket products for A's games at Sutter Health Park are yet to be determined, we anticipate more information being made available later this summer for the 2025 season. Current A's season ticket holders will get priority purchase access. More information will be made available to current A's members later this summer. Sutter Health Park has a capacity of 14,000. Another Loss For Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao Regarding The A's It has to be said that, once again, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao completely blew it. The Oakland A's decision-point is supposed to be the Oakland Coliseum Joint Powers Authority, aka JPA. But, Thao, again determined to make it about her agenda and not about economic development, threw up a wild request for the A's to pay $97 million, or what she says that John Fisher claims was the dollar amount loss in trying to do Howard Terminal. Aside from the fact that it is an illogical reason, the other problem is that the A's have nothing to do with the City of Oakland's budget deficit. Yet, the $97 million was going to be used to pay down part of the $162 million shortfall. Even though the matter wasn't brought up until the third meeting of the parties on Monday, the fact that there was no one who countered the proposal made it all the more worse. Watching all of this was Vivek Ranadive, Once he got Kaval and Fisher in the room it became sports owner to sports owner. No public officials in the room. So, no surprise, they managed to hammer out a deal without drama. To say it was a new world to John Fisher and Dave Kaval is an understatement. Meanwhile, the City of Oakland is left in a situation that it is going to put on a good face about, but the damage to the Mayor's already bad reputation is evident. Mayor Thao does not follow the law, she is content to do what she wants to do, and that's that. Her way is not mature - there's no other word to use. It's a sad day for Oakland, made even worse by the not living in Oakland A;s Fans who push the Mayor all the time. More to come. Stay tuned.

(March 30, 2024) – Bay FC received goals from Deyna Castellanos and Racheal Kundananji but surrendered a goal deep in second-half stoppage time, falling 3-2 to the Houston Dash in front of a sold-out crowd of 18,000 fans at PayPal Park on Saturday night. Kundananji scored on her NWSL debut, helping level the match in the 93rd minute, but Houston tallied the game-winning goal in the 100th minute through substitute Havana Solaun. Goal-Scoring Plays BAY – Deyna Castellanos, 19th minute: Scarlett Camberos dribbled down the left side of the field and played a cross into the center of the box. Asisat Oshoala’s initial shot was blocked by multiple Houston players, but Deyna Castellanos pounced on the loose ball and unleashed a strike into the top left corner of the goal. HOU – Maria Sanchez (Diana Ordonez), 66th minute: Maria Sanchez delivered a cross from near the left endline back across the face of goal to Diana Ordonez, who converted from close range with a header at the back post. HOU – Diana Ordonez, 87th minute: Barbara Olivieri played a cross from the right side that took a deflection off a Bay FC player’s arm. Houston was awarded a penalty kick. Lysianne Proulx made the save on Ordonez’s attempt but was unable to secure the ball and Ordonez tracked down the loose ball, finishing near the goal line. BAY – Racheal Kundananji, 90+3: Kundananji picked up the ball in space, making a run down the right side of the field. She cut back toward the center of the box and sent a pinpoint curling strike just inside the left post. HOU – Havana Solaun, 90+10: Maria Sanchez played a cross into the box from the left side. Bay FC cleared the ball, but it landed at the feet of Havana Solaun, who sent a swerving shot from the edge of the box into the left corner of the goal. Notes: Bay FC played in front a sold-out crowd of 18,000 fans in their inaugural home opener at PayPal Park. It was the largest crowd to see a women’s professional sporting event in the Bay Area, surpassing the record of 16,174 fans who attended a Bay Area CyberRays home game in July 2001. Tonight’s match marked the first women’s professional soccer game in Bay Area since Sept. 2010 (WPS Championship game). Here's what was said, according to John Shea of The San Francisco Chronicle: A’s legends Dave Stewart, Rickey Henderson point fingers at Oakland for Coliseum chaos By John Shea March 16, 2024 Former A's pitcher Dave Stewart, now a special assistant to the general manager, said the city of Oakland should be happy to extend the team's lease at the Coliseum beyond this season. SFChronicle: They’re the pride of Oakland, ballplayers who were raised in the city and later became teammates and dominant forces on their hometown team’s last World Series championship in 1989.Rickey Henderson and Dave Stewart grew up knowing Oakland as a title town — from the 1972, 1973 and 1974 Oakland Athletics to the 1976 and 1980 Oakland Raiders to the 1974-1975 Golden State Warriors — and then experienced a championship themselves in 1989 when Henderson was the ALCS MVP, Stewart the World Series MVP. Over time, one by one, all those Oakland teams decided to pack up and leave town — the Raiders twice — so it’s almost as if locals such as Henderson and Stewart are numb to the fact the A’s are bolting to Las Vegas. “It’s disappointing to see the A’s leaving,” Henderson said. “But we’ve gone through so much with all the teams. The city, there’s something they’re not seeing. When you have a city that had three big-name professional sports teams, and you can’t keep any of them, something’s wrong. It’s sad for the city.” Both Henderson and Stewart have suited up in A’s training camp this spring to guide and inspire young players. They see emerging talent — Henderson admires Esteury Ruiz’s base-running skills, and Stewart’s impressed with Zack Gelof’s leadership skills — but also see a team coming off consecutive 100-loss seasons that again will be challenged to compete in 2024. More than any of that, the Oakland mainstays -- Henderson is a special assistant to the president, and Stewart is a TV analyst on pregame and postgame shows -- see a team that’s getting pulled out of town by owner John Fisher, a move that’s supported by the other 29 teams, including the Giants, who stand to benefit from a one-team market. Though every relocation bid by Oakland teams has had its own set of reasons or excuses, the common denominator is the city itself, about to go 0-for-3. At this point, the best Oakland, Mayor Sheng Thao and Alameda County can do is negotiate a lease extension for the team and push the A’s to sell their half of the Coliseum property that they’re purchasing from the county, an unfortunate 2019 transaction that has backfired. The A’s maintained at the time they needed to develop at the property to help fund their ballpark at Howard Terminal, but until further notice, they’re ditching town and keeping the real estate. While Fisher works to build a stadium on the Strip that’ll supposedly open in 2028, he needs a place to play in 2025, 2026 and 2027. Both sides are playing hardball in negotiations for a Coliseum lease extension, Fisher not wanting to open his vault after previously paying just $1.25 million annually and Thao insisting Oakland would need to secure an expansion team as part of any arrangement. That’s a non-starter for Major League Baseball, which eventually will expand from 30 to 32 teams but hasn’t yet started the process of identifying cities as final expansion candidates. Thao also has pushed to keep the team’s name and colors in Oakland, which also might be a stretch because they’re the property of the team, not the city. “The mayor can say whatever she wants to, but if what I’m reading is true, it’s a wrong approach,” Stewart said. “She talked about the lack of jobs because they’re leaving, but in the meantime, you have an opportunity to keep jobs and create jobs until ’28 when they do leave. You’re going to try to force baseball to give you an expansion team? It’s not the way to go about it.“When you make that kind of thing public, I think you’re just trying to talk to your constituents in Oakland.”Stewart is rooting for the A’s to stay in the interim years but isn’t confident it’ll happen — “Even for something as little as getting an extended lease for the stadium, I just don’t see there to be a possibility,” said Stewart, who doesn’t have much faith in Oakland politicians after his group’s bid to buy the city’s half of the Coliseum was ignored. The city chose to enter an exclusive negotiating agreement with the African American Sports Entertainment Group even though Stewart said his group’s bid was higher.
