What’s strange is the initial report said it came from 200 yards away and from a guy on a roof. Then, two suspects were taken in and released, and a supposed manhunt is under way. Or is is? On Twitter, a man named Andrew Mercado observed: The Charlie Kirk assassination leaves more questions than answers. First, the FBI Director said a suspect was in custody. Then local police said that wasn’t true and the person was released. Now? The shooter is still at large. No manhunt. No public warnings. No major press conference laying out facts. Just conflicting reports in the aftermath of a high-profile killing that shook a college campus and rattled the country. Whatever your politics, this is unsettling. How does someone assassinate a nationally known figure in broad daylight, on camera, and walk away with no clear explanation from law enforcement? We deserve transparency. We deserve answers. So far, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee’s performance as the 52nd Mayor of Oakland can be summed up in one-word: disappointing. For someone who came in with such high expectations and an unwritten but very tangible mandate to get Oakland off the ground and running, she’s demonstrated that she does not at all get what it means to be the mayor of a city in distress. Ilooked at her so-called 100-days of action, and it can be summed up in this way: I TOOK A LOT OF MEETINGS WITH PEOPLE, WE GOT MONEY FROM THE FEDS, AND WE’VE WRITTEN A PLAN TO MAKE A PLAN, AND MORE PLANS. That’s it. A Weak Message At A Time Oakland Needs A Strong One The other problem with Mayor Lee’s claim to have changed Oakland is it comes right at the time when Oakland’s called the second most dangerous city in America. You don’t match that news with reports on how you’re going to do the following: United 100+ business leaders in powerful safety coalition Funded five police academies and authorized 678 officers toward 700-officer goal Funded the expansion of Oakland’s Community Safety Ambassador program Revived sideshow enforcement patrols Forged major employer partnerships for citywide safety Connected merchants with Business Improvement District advisors to activate “Block Captain” model including Police and community ambassadors Developing personalized security plans for hospital campuses in partnership with Oakland Police Department Rather than “use tax increment financing to catalyze building development and economic development and add 200 more police officers and security professionals to help fight crime in Oakland.” The point is, Mayor Lee focuses on efforts that don’t make money for Oakland, and doesn’t get that more private sector activity literally buys a city its police department. Mayor Lee’s slogan should be “Oakland’s open for business”, not “We’re going to work with you if you’re the same nonprofits I have heard of before”. And many Oaklanders who are active players in Oakland Government don’t get the monetary connection between the private sector and public sector. The private sector makes the money and the public sector gains money from the private sector to provide services to the private sector. In Oakland, it’s more like the public sector both serves and then gets money from the public sector. No wonder we’re running consistent deficits. Some Oaklanders have said to me “If we just reduce crime, business will come back.” Nothing could be further from the truth, and it comes from the same people who are naive enough to believe that a simple change in zoning laws will automatically produce everything from affordable housing to better business conditions. None of these people ever consider the role of subsidies in policy implementation. You know, giving people and businesses in the private sector money? Oakland, which was once one a leader in the use of redevelopment law for economic development prior to 2011, now acts like it doesn’t even understand the powerful math behind tax increment financing. And that’s because they don’t but that’s for another time. Mayor Lee’s Economic Development Forgot Economic Development Go through Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee’s first 100 days and you find no mention of any development plans or small business subsidy objectives. Take a look at her so-called “economic development accomplishments”: Rallied Oakland’s largest employers for bold investment commitments in Oakland’s future Delivered $3 million Business Incentive Program and funded Economic Activation Zones in partnership with Council Fast-tracked 22 bright new streetlights around Fox Theatre Reinstated Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program for 200+ Oakland youth Boosted graffiti cleanup resources for business corridors in partnership with Council Partnered with Jack London Square merchants for business growth Initiated Sister Cities Program revival and international trade connections Partnered on green business incubator serving 25 small business owner Of these, the following are not economic development: Fast-tracked 22 bright new streetlights around Fox Theatre Reinstated funding for Cultural Affairs Division Manager in partnership with Council Employed 75 justice-involved residents to remove 30 tons of trash The others are good associations, but they have no promise of monetary investment in the private sector to help them fix facades, upgrade kitchens, install bars and gates, get private security, reduce insurance costs, or just have more working capital. No Stolen Valor in Oakland: AASEG Co-Founder Ray Bobbitt Did Not Lie About Military Record Period Ray Bobbitt, who's African American Sports and Entertainment Group (AASEG) is the owner of the Oakland-Coliseum Complex, is the focus of a fake news attack countered by a high-ranking non-commissioned, retired Marines NCO Officer. A wrongheaded press release has been issued that states "Stolen Valor in Oakland: AASEG Co-Founder Ray Bobbitt Lied About Military Record for Personal Gain". Then it wrongly claims: Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) records confirm that Ray Bobbitt, founder of the African American Sports & Entertainment Group (AASEG), lied about being a “highly decorated war veteran.” The official U.S. Marine Corps records prove that Bobbitt’s narrative is false: Bobbitt’s unit never deployed overseas. He did not arrive at Yuma, Arizona on active duty until mere weeks before the war ended. His medals and decorations do not match the medals of a soldier who deployed to combat. For example, Bobbitt does not have the Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM), the Kuwait Liberation Medal, or the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. In other words: Bobbitt never went to war, was not “highly decorated,” and his combat claims are a total fabrication. THIS CLAIM IS FACTUALLY WRONG ON THE PART OF THE PERSON TRYING TO MAKE RAY LOOK BAD WITH FAKE NEWS The truth is anything but that. The press release issued is wrong. A fabrication. A lie. Bobbitt writes the following: To Whom It May Concern, I am honored to write this letter on behalf of my fellow United States Marine Corps brother, Raymond “Ray” Bobbitt. Ray and I served together in the 4th LAAM Battalion of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. During our time in service, we were both activated alongside our unit under the 4th Marine Air Wing in support of Operation Desert Storm. In recognition of our activation, Ray, myself, and all members of our unit were awarded the National Defense Service Medal. This medal, established in 1953, is a United States Armed Forces service award given to those who serve honorably during designated periods of national conflict. It has been issued for service during the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and the Global War on Terrorism. The NDSM is a symbol of commitment, sacrifice, and readiness to serve in defense of our nation. Our activation marked one of the first times in many years that Reserve units had been mobilized during wartime. Nonetheless, Ray and I—along with all our Marine brothers—left our families and civilian lives behind to enter active duty, prepared to train, deploy, and, if necessary, make the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. We are proud Military Veterans who stood ready to serve in the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Desert Storm in which the Department of Defense issued the NDSM for the period of August 2nd 1990 to November 30th 1995 to all service members; Reserves, Active Duty or recruits in boot camp. As Marines, we take our training, our service, and our brotherhood with utmost seriousness. Every medal, ribbon, or device earned is proudly worn on our uniforms as a visible reminder of the sacrifices we have made and the honor of serving our nation and defending it's citizens no matter what race, creed, or color. Ray was trained and served in what is widely regarded as the most elite and demanding military organization in the world—the United States Marine Corps. That distinction is not given; it is earned. Ray has never talked about his service and in fact, I did not know about it until the press release that was sent to Zennie62Media, today. It's wrong. Ray never used his service to advance himself. Moreover, I have known Ray in a variety of situations. In the case of the Return of The Raiders to Oakland, or our attempt to stop the Las Vegas Move, Ray never once used his time with the Marines sving our great country for his advancement. The framer of the press release should retract that statement and apologize to Ray Bobbitt, and thank him for his service
