British MP: ‘Trump could be a Russian asset’ - ATLNews

Earlier this week, British lawmaker Graham Stuart raised the possibility that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, had been groomed by the Kremlin’s security services over a period of decades. In a post on X, he said: “We have to consider the possibility that President Trump is a Russian asset. If so, Trump’s acquisition is the crowning achievement of Putin’s FSB career, and Europe is on its own.” Stuart’s post comes amid seismic geopolitical shifts, as the Trump administration courts Russia, freezes military aid for Ukraine, and sidelines Europe as it attempts to end Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Speaking exclusively to the Kyiv Independent, Stuart explains what prompted him to make such an extraordinary public statement, and what it means both for the future of Ukraine, and the continent as a whole. 29th Annual Sisters’ Awards Luncheon In L.A. Honors Trailblazing Women - ATLNews

The Los Angeles chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC-LA) hosted an unforgettable afternoon of celebration and purpose at the 29th Annual Sisters’ Awards Luncheon on Sunday at the Loews Hollywood Hotel. This sold-out event, themed Roots, Resilience, and Radiance, honored extraordinary women whose leadership, perseverance, and innovation continue to shape industries and uplift communities. The event raised critical scholarship funds for young women from the Los Angeles area attending Spelman, ensuring that the next generation of leaders has the resources to thrive. A portion of the proceeds will also provide direct assistance to Spelman community members impacted by the recent Los Angeles-area wildfires. Thanks to the generosity of supporters and attendees, the luncheon successfully raised more than $145,000 for these vital initiatives. Actress and producer Vanessa Bell Calloway brought her signature warmth and grace to her role as event host Vanessa kicked off her remarks by sharing her longtime admiration for Spelman College and what she jokingly called her ongoing case of “Spelman Envy.” “I thought after writing checks for eight years straight, I’d finally be cured,” she quipped. “But watching my daughters thrive only made my ‘Spelman Envy’ worse! So when they asked me to host today, I said yes without hesitation—because this is about celebrating roots, resilience, and radiance, and ensuring that more young women have the opportunity to carry this legacy forward.” Rosalind “Roz” Brewer (C’84), Interim President of Spelman College and former CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, was recognized as the Legacy Leader for her trailblazing leadership in business, diversity, and corporate innovation, as well as her steadfast leadership at Spelman College and stepping into the role of Interim President to ensure the continuation of the institution’s legacy of excellence. Introduced by TV host, author, philanthropist and media executive, Shaun Robinson (C ‘84), Brewer spoke passionately about her commitment to leadership and the Spelman community. “Leadership isn’t about the titles we hold; it’s about the impact we make and the paths we pave for those who follow. At Spelman, we cultivate not just scholars, but trailblazers who confront challenges head-on and transform them into opportunities,” she shared. “I am deeply honored to receive this recognition and want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Spelman alumnae, faculty, and students who inspire me every day. Thank you to NAASC-LA for your unwavering commitment to supporting our students and ensuring the legacy of excellence continues." The event also honored Judge Mablean Ephriam, best known for her time on Divorce Court, as the Resilient Justice Advocate, recognizing her decades of work in mentorship, family advocacy, and judicial reform. "I stand here today as a testament to resilience—proof that when we refuse to take ‘no’ for an answer, when we push forward despite obstacles, we can break down doors that were never meant to open for us,” said Judge Mablean in her acceptance speech. “My journey in law was not given to me; I fought for it, I demanded my seat at the table, and I encourage every young woman in this room to do the same. Stand firm, speak boldly, and never be afraid to claim what is rightfully yours." Dr. Carliss McGhee, a dedicated educator and the founder of the Khocolate Keepsakes Children’s Literacy Museum, received the Rooted Educator award for her lifelong commitment to literacy and empowerment. Rising actress and producer Ashley Jackson (C '20), daughter of Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. and Dr. Karin Stanford, was celebrated as the Radiant Rising Star, recognized for her emerging excellence in entertainment and social justice advocacy. As the honorees reflected on their achievements, the afternoon reached another emotional high point with a breathtaking, unplugged performance by Goapele, courtesy of Amazon Music. The acclaimed Oakland-born singer-songwriter delivered a soulful tribute to the late Roberta Flack and Roy Ayers, seamlessly weaving their timeless classics into her own signature hits, including “Closer.” Her stripped-down, acoustic set created an intimate and electrifying moment. The room was filled with numerous esteemed figures across entertainment, business, and media, all coming together in celebration of the Spelman legacy. Among the notable attendees were legendary TV and film executive Suzanne de Passe, acclaimed actor and industry mentor Richard Lawson, Amazon Music’s Phylicia Fant (C’2000), Amazon creative executive Traci Blackwell (C’ 91), director and producer D’Angela Procter (C ‘91), Ms. Black California USA, Ke'Andra Levingston (C’ 2014), HBCUs in LA/EICOP founder Stacy Milner, and many more. Their presence underscores the deep respect and admiration for Spelman women and the impact they continue to make on the world. .

THIS IS THE OAKLAND KTVU MAYORAL DEBATE SITUATION ROOM ON THE THREAT TO DEMOCRACY IN OAKLAND - ATLNews

THIS IS THE OAKLAND KTVU MAYORAL DEBATE SITUATION ROOM ON THE THREAT TO DEMOCRACY IN OAKLAND. This first of its kind meeting livestream starts Tuesday March 11th at 5 PM PST - 8 PM EST. On today, Tuesday March 11th, KTVU is holding an Oakland Mayoral Debate featuring just two of the 10 candidates running in the April 15th 2025 Oakland Mayoral Special Election. Former Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Former Oakland City Councilmember Loren Taylor are the two, and their donor organizations commanding a combined $600,000 have tabbed KTVU to produce the event. KTVU has not invited any other candidate. That caused the creation of this "OAKLAND KTVU MAYORAL DEBATE SITUATION ROOM ON THE THREAT TO DEMOCRACY IN OAKLAND". Money has guided this campaign more than any other and crowded out the voices of 2025 Oakland Mayoral Candidates Cristina Grappo, Tyron Jordan, Peter Liu, Mindy Pechenuk, Suz Robinson, Eric Simpson, Elizabeth Swaney, and Renia Webb. The purpose of this event is to introduce the candidates and also present the case stating why this KTVU event has the appearance of corruption. The first reason is the organizations behind the KTVU Debate: Black Action Alliance and Empower Oakland. The Black Action Alliance is reportedly funded by a man named Philip Dreyfuss, who is not black. Empower Oakland is an advocacy group started by Loren Taylor, who is also an Oakland Mayoral Candidate. So, Loren is, in effect, producing his own promotional event, much like Logan Paul would stage his own boxing match against Mike Tyson. But that's sports and entertainment; this is about who runs Oakland. There are a great many people upset with this. You will meet many of the Oakland Mayoral Candidates and hear them state their case for the importance of maintaining an accessible democracy and what that looks like to them. We also welcome all Oaklanders to join us for this much needed event. Remember: EXTREMISM IN DEFENSE OF OAKLAND IS NO VICE!

Zennie Abraham's Email To Oakland Focused Media & Groups Producing Oakland Mayoral Forums: Do Better

Zennie Abraham's Email To Oakland Focused Media & Groups Producing Oakland Mayoral Forums: Do Better

On Thursday, March 5th, 2025, I issued the following email regarding how these Oakland Mayoral Forums have started to bring less value to the Oakland Electorate than the initial group. All of them are basically the same with a person or panel asking questions, the candidates giving answers, and none of them broadcast in a multi-media organization way so the largest number of Oaklanders can see them. But the biggest problem of all is the question format: it has nothing to do with actually running an Oakland Mayor's Office at all. And it's hard to determine what kind of leader we're going to get from that format. So, we get the same answers to the same questions again and again, and learn nothing in the process. There's a bigger problem at play and I address it here: Greetings Everyone, I will issue this view. These forums have become completely monotonous and at this point valueless. The organizers ask the same questions. The format of audience - passive viewer is the same, even when who asks questions is considered. And NONE OF THEM REFLECT HOW THE CITY OF OAKLAND ACTUALLY WORKS, so the discussions start out as interesting, but then become laughable. But they do reflect one problem: why Oakland has degenerated to a point where it's own electorate does not care to self-engage change. The number one problem is that we have lost special interests representing what we've lost. Has anyone considered that for the A's, Raiders, and Warriors, the booster clubs, once the actual Oakland promotional organizations, are gone. Same is true for the total of 20,000 businesses lost since 2020. And with that, the Census-estimated 14,000 Oaklanders who have left (the real number is greater). Then, there are those who have died. Many of the people who remain do not at all know of the Oakland that existed before 2000. That was 25 years ago. By contrast, my first job out of Cal grad school was with the Oakland Redevelopment Agency and I was hired by the same man who was later the project manager for the Oakland Bulk and Oversized Terminal. Yes, the same project that some idiotically call a "coal terminal". By contrast, from 1993-1999 my Montclarion Column competed with that of the Oakland Tribune's Peggy Stinette for "most popular", and I generated more mail in two weeks than The Montclarion had ever seen in its history. And in 1996 I managed to score a hat trick: Montclarion Columnist and Economic Advisor to Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris. And that was before I became Oakland's first blogger and vlogger. So I span two different generations of communication, and ways of thinking: one without the Internet, and one with it. The former generation is more interested in institutional detail; the later more interested in image (what some call "virtue signalling"). The movies had longer dialog; the books were of extreme length. So today you can't start to understand how to wrap your minds around a city built of another time, and how to fix it today. And how you approach the forums reflects that. And if you have doubts, and need an example from afar, I point to Ron DeSantis. The Florida Governor believed he could just take Walt Disney World for the government. My first thought was that something I memorized when I was 10 years old would block him: The Reedy Creek Improvement District. Passed by the Florida Legislature in 1968, it formed Walt Disney World into a City State, with an effective legal bubble designed to shield it from the study decisions that often follow those that hate to read details, or be bothered with them. That describes much of society, including the governments, today. No surprise, Ron got smacked right in the head by the The Reedy Creek Improvement District, and while you may think it's dead, it can be brought back to life under one change. And what's left is still the RCID for the most part. And why did he and his people get smacked in the head: because like most couch-potato ideologues of today, they just don't bother with details and hate reading. I was attracted to urban planning at eight years old, and the desire to build a city from scratch, at 10 years old, because of two books: One The Art Of Walt Disney and a section by Peter Blake called "The Lessons Of the Parks" and the other before that called "The Modern Metropolis" by Hans Bluemenfeld (yes, I am aware and was aware then that he was a communist). Loren Taylor Didn’t Successfully Call For Oakland Enhanced Infrastructure Financing Districts

Loren Taylor Didn’t Successfully Call For Oakland Enhanced Infrastructure Financing Districts

Loren Taylor Didn’t Successfully Call For Creation Of Oakland Enhanced Infrastructure Financing Districts. Why he is putting out this complete untruth is because he does not know what the legislation is. I do. And I was the first to call for its use in Oakland in 2017. I presented the idea of using EIFD legislation for Howard Terminal to then Oakland A's President Dave Kaval on April 4th 2017. Kaval turned to the Mayor or Oakland Libby Schaaf and with California State Senator Nancy Skinner created SB293 Skinner. That was the A's version but the City of Oakland never implemented it. Then in 2022 February 2, at 2 PM, then Oakland Mayoral Candidate and District Four Oakland City Councilmember Sheng Thao asked to have what she called a "secret ZOOM meeting" with me because she did not know about EIFD legislation and tax increment financing. She wanted to make a city-wide EIFD zone but wanted free work from me on it. Plus she was already paying a TIF consultant! I said I needed to be paid for that. Afterward, Sheng avoided my interview requests, so I started spilling the beans on our secret ZOOM meeting. Oakland does not have an EIFD to this day. And Loren calls it an IFD or Infrastructure Financing District which is wrong. In California its called Enhanced to reflect the use of tax increment financing. Loren could have ask me about all of this but petty reasons prevent him from doing so. And Barbara Lee has her own problem with not getting help to Oakland Businesses when the PPP Loan program was not getting enough money to Oakland businesses. Stay tuned.
