We are proud to announce that the petition to recall Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao has successfully surpassed the required number of signatures and will be placed on the ballot for the November general election. Oakland United to Recall Sheng Thao (OUST) received this notice from the City of Oakland today: “Pursuant to the provisions of Elections Code Section 9210(b), recall petitions were examined from June 5, 2024, to June 11, 2024, and were found to contain 40,595 signatures and 5,611 sections prima facie*. In accordance with Elections Code Section 9210(b), it has been determined that the number of signatures prima facie equals or exceeds the minimum number required. Therefore, the petition is considered filed and has been forwarded to the County of Alameda Registrar of Voters as of June 5, 2024.” “This historic achievement marks the first recall in Oakland's history, with over 40,000 Oakland voters signing with a sense of urgency and purpose to recall this dishonest and incompetent mayor. Thao’s actions have pushed Oakland to the brink, but the community is saying, 'NO MORE. We want Thao gone,'” states OUST President, Retired Alameda County Superior Court Judge Brenda Harbin-Forte. The City Council is expected to discuss this matter at its meeting on July 2, 2024. OUST will hold a press conference tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Frank Ogawa Plaza to address the next steps.

Both reports were prepared by Century Urban, the consultant to the City of Oakland. In 2021, Zennie62Media blasted the initial report as incorrect and understating the potential tax increment revenue. Neither the City of Oakland nor the consultant directly answered questions from Zennie62Media. But then Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf told this blogger, Zennie Abraham, Zennie62Media CEO that the City did not have the staff to do the redevelopment work done before the original law was eliminated in 2011. This blogger pushed back on that questioning why Mayor Schaaf had consultants plan and then worked with Oakland A’s President Dave Kaval on an idea that was originally from this blogger to do a tax increment financing zone at Howard Terminal. The City never addressed that question. But it’s clear the City of Oakland had Century Urban redo the work after Zennie62Media issued a number of scathing vlogs and articles on the subject that included detailed spreadsheets and calculations. There's an idea that the Oakland A's are violating the not-yet approved non-relocation agreement over an idea to have the baseball team play up to eight games overseas. While 10 percent of the 81 home game schedule may seem like a good chunk, is not as bad as it reads. The reasons are two fold: the eight game marketing trip does not mean the sports and entertainment district is or will be closed to visitors. The Senate Bill One allows for development outside the ballpark that is next to it, and between the proposed new hotel and the ballpark. That is the kind of development that is in Atlanta and Arlington, Texas, to name two of many examples. Also, that makes sure there will be revenue generated by the sports and entertainment district year-round. The non-relocation agreement is just that. It does not call for no-outside trips. It simply means the franchise's is not going to leave the venue over a 30 year period (in this case). It means that the bulk of revenue generated by the club will be while playing in the ballpark and not somewhere else.

A few favorite moments of Morgan Freeman on The Electric Company. -------------------------------- The Electric Company is an educational children's television series created by Paul Dooley and produced by the Children's Television Workshop for PBS in the United States. PBS broadcast 780 episodes over the course of its six seasons from October 25, 1971, to April 15, 1977. After it ceased production in 1977, the program continued in reruns until October 4, 1985, as the result of a decision made in 1975 to produce two final seasons for perpetual use. The Workshop produced the show at Second Stage, located within the Reeves Teletape Studios (Teletape), in Manhattan, which had been the first home of Sesame Street. The Electric Company employed sketch comedy and various other devices to provide an entertaining program to help elementary school children develop their grammar and reading skills. Since it was intended for children who had graduated from CTW's flagship program, Sesame Street, the humor was more mature than what was seen there. The original cast included Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno, Bill Cosby, Judy Graubart, Lee Chamberlin and Skip Hinnant. Most of the cast had done stage, repertory, and improvisational work, with Cosby and Moreno already well-established performers on film and television. Ken Roberts (1971–1973), best known as a soap opera announcer (Love of Life; The Secret Storm), was the narrator of some segments during season one, most notably the parody of the genre that had given him prominence, Love of Chair. Jim Boyd, who was strictly an off-camera voice actor and puppeteer during the first season, began appearing on-camera in the second season, mostly in the role of J. Arthur Crank. Luis Ávalos also joined the cast at that time. Cosby was a regular in season one, and occasionally appeared in new segments during season two, but left afterward. Nevertheless, segments that Cosby had taped during seasons one and two were repeatedly used for the rest of the run, and Cosby was billed as a cast member throughout. Similarly, Chamberlin was a regular for the first 2 years, but also left after the show’s second season. But many of her segments were also repeatedly reused; and consequently, she was also billed as a cast member throughout the show's run. Added to the cast at the beginning of season three (1973–1974) was Hattie Winston, an actress and singer who later appeared on the show Becker. Sol Kaplan's excellent musical score is one of the best ever written for television. The SPFX in this episode have since been updated with CGI... ...but many Trek fans much prefer these original effects. Some shots use a model kit replica of the Enterprise.
