Steve Harvey To Host Miss Universe In New Deal - Mistake Publicity Stunt? Steve Harvey will host Miss Universe for years to come after signing a new deal that is called "lucrative". It begs the question: was Steve Harvey's Miss Universe mistake real or a publicity stunt? I say it was a publicity stunt, and I point to the famed 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show as the example and where Justin Timberlake tore off Janet Jackson's bra. I felt that was a stunt to generate Super Bowl buzz for weeks and years. At the time the Super Bowl needed that kind of shot in the pop culture arm. Miss Universe did today. Congrats to Steve Harvey.

SUSPENDED ONE GAME FOR VIOLATIONS OF PLAYER SAFETY RULES ODELL BECKHAM JR. of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for next Sunday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings for multiple violations of safety-related playing rules in yesterday's game against the Carolina Panthers. Beckham was penalized three times for unnecessary roughness, including a late helmet-to-helmet hit against a defenseless player in which Beckham left his feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, lowered his helmet and initiated forcible contact with his helmet, and forcibly struck the defenseless player's head. This "blindside block" was particularly flagrant because Beckham, with a 10-yard running start, had an unobstructed path to his opponent, the position of the opponent was not impacted by any other player, and the contact with the head/neck was avoidable. The suspension was imposed by NFL Vice President of Football Operations MERTON HANKS. Hanks ruled that Beckham's actions placed his opponents at unnecessary risk of injury and should have been avoided. In a letter to Beckham, Hanks noted, "At numerous times during yesterday's game against the Carolina Panthers, your actions placed a fellow player at unnecessary risk…and clearly did not represent the high standards of sportsmanship expected." Beckham will not be permitted this week to attend team meetings and functions; attend or watch practices; appear at the club's facilities for any reason; attend press conferences; appear at the team's December 27 game; or have contact with any club personnel except to arrange off-site medical treatment or rehabilitation. Beckham will be reinstated on Monday, December 28. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the suspension may be appealed within three business days. Appeals are heard and decided by either DERRICK BROOKS or JAMES THRASH, the officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline. The conduct of other players in the Panthers-Giants game is being reviewed for potential discipline in the form of fines. # # #

Oakland Martinizing On Grand Has Racist Clerk The Oakland One-Hour Martinizing On Grand Avenue has a really racist clerk who is such that I will never spend my money there again. Ever. I had just come to pick up my cleaning for my trip and even then had just come from a cafe where I was having an espresso and croissant, but when I went to get sugar for my coffee, one female light skinned black officer who was so far away from me that I barely saw her out of the corner of my eye, moved away with such a rapidity that I said "I don't bite". That was so weird I could not get it out of my head. At the cleaners, a black woman offered to help me so I could get my clothes. To gauge my observation, I told her what happened. But as I am in the middle of describing the event, a while woman with short brunette hair comes out and says "What's the problem?" I said "There is no problem. Why does there have to be a problem?" The simple fact she thought something was wrong was really just an example of yet another microaggression that many blacks deal with and are taking about. Minorities of all stripes. Its behavior done to them that says "I am threatened by you just because of your presence." So when I tried to finish the story - really I had but was re-explaining it for her thinking she would listen, she instead said "We don't allow that in here." I told her that I was a long standing customer and blogger and I would report her bad treatment. I got my clothes, let the other clerk have my change as a Christmas present for being nice, and left. I shared what happened to me there with my Uber driver, who is black, and who said "That was wrong. What is wrong with her?" What was worse is that when I called to talk to the owner, I got her and told her that her behavior was just wrong. But instead of apologies from her she went on to tell me that she was a former customer too, and that I did not know who SHE was. She said that I was "being political" which is a complete lie. The problem is her inability to listen means she can't stand to hear the truth. As if her status is going to make me spend money at that Oakland cleaners. Not anymore. As long as she is at Grand Avenue Martinizing, I will never go there again. She was being completely rude and racist - I will not deal with it.
