He’s been with the organization since 2000; Grier held various scouting roles with increasing responsibility with the Dolphins. He also has past experience in the personnel department of the New England Patriots, having served there from 1994-1999The 2021 campaign marked his 22nd season with the franchise, rising from area scout to national scout, director of college scouting and general manager during that time. Beginning in 2019, Grier was given control of football operations and has since implemented new philosophies to building a competitive team. Utilizing a value-based approach, the Dolphins rebuilt the roster with young players who were tough, disciplined and versatile. Grier also worked to accumulate future draft capital. The Dolphins had three first-round picks and two second-round picks in 2020, had two first-round picks and two second-round picks in 2021 and are scheduled to have two first-round picks again in 2023. In his first draft as general manager in 2016, Grier selected Howard in the second round. In six NFL seasons, Howard has earned a first-team All-Pro nod (2020), been selected to the Pro Bowl three times (2018, 2020, 2021), led the NFL in interceptions in one season (2020), tied for the NFL lead in interceptions in another (2018) and totaled more interceptions since he entered the league than any other NFL player. From 2016-18, Grier oversaw the draft and both pro and college scouting departments and was responsible for the acquisition of multiple All-Pro and Pro Bowl players including Howard, Sanders, wide receiver/returner Jakeem Grant, tackle Laremy Tunsil and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Grier's father Bobby was the Associate Director of Pro Personnel for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL) from 2000-2016.[2] Prior to that, Bobby Grier spent several years with the New England Patriots, where he served in various roles, including as the running back coach, director of pro scouting, and vice-president of player personnel. Chris Grier went to UMASS, he played football for 2 years and spent 2 years as a student assistant. Grier served as an intern for the New England Patriots in 1994 before being promoted to a regional scout in 1995. Grier's Patriots made the Super Bowl once in his tenure; in Super Bowl XXXI where the team lost to the Green Bay Packers 21-35. Grier has worked alongside head coaches Bill Parcells and Pete Carroll during his tenure in New England.
