Trump Layer Alina Habba Barred From Serving As Acting US Attorney For New Jersey According To Law 360, Alina Habba, President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer cannot serve as acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey, the Third Circuit ruled Monday in a precedential opinion holding that her appointment violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act and undermined the constitutional safeguards of Senate confirmation. A three-judge circuit panel affirmed a district court order disqualifying Alina Habba from overseeing prosecutions, including cases against Julien Giraud Jr., Julien Giraud III and real estate influencer Cesar "Flipping NJ" Pina. Although the court disqualified Habba, it declined to dismiss the indictments in the cases. The appellate opinion marks the latest news in the controversy swirling around Alina Habba's tenure as the top federal prosecutor in the Garden State. Ms. Habba was originally named interim U.S. attorney by Trump in March, but was never confirmed by the Senate. Her formal nomination was withdrawn following opposition from New Jersey's two Democratic senators. When the 120-day clock wound down on Alina Habba's interim appointment, Chief U.S. District Judge Renée Marie Bumb then appointed First Assistant U.S. Attorney Desiree Grace to the role, but Attorney General Pam Bondi fired Grace and replaced her with Habba, first in the role of special attorney and then as first assistant U.S. attorney, taking over the tasks of U.S. attorney for the state. U.S. Circuit Judge D. Michael Fisher, writing for the panel, emphasized that only the first assistant in place at the time of a vacancy may automatically assume acting duties under the FVRA. The court rejected the Justice Department's argument that Habba could be retroactively designated as first assistant and thereby qualify for automatic elevation. "Habba is not the acting U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey by virtue of her appointment as first assistant U.S. attorney because only the first assistant in place at the time the vacancy arises automatically assumes the functions and duties of the office under the FVRA," Judge Fisher wrote. Judges L. Felipe Restrepo, D. Brooks Smith and D. Michael Fisher sat on the Third Circuit panel. Julien Giraud Jr. is represented by Thomas S. Mirigliano of the Law Office of Thomas S. Oakland Tech Week is under way and whoever thought of it, while it has a few misses here and there, it's a good start. One main something is that the discussion of "tech" in Oakland should be daily, weekly. The reason is that in today's culture, everything is tech to some degree; how we do things is now impacted by creations based on new technology and primarily to scale - which is another way of saying get to a lot of people in a short time. How one solves that problem is by coming up with a tech event. That should be a year-round project. But, for now, let's look at the first Oakland Tech Week. OAKLAND, CA - Mayor Barbara Lee today announced the launch of Oakland Tech Week. Oakland’s first Oakland Tech Week is a week-long exploration of technology, innovation, and solutions, November 17 - 21, 2025, bringing together builders, entrepreneurs, technologists, artists, students, and community members to showcase Oakland's emergence as a major Bay Area tech hub. The week-long event will feature networking sessions, panel discussions, pitch competitions, hands-on workshops, and community gatherings across multiple Oakland venues. Oakland Tech Week aims to connect leaders from all levels who are working to modernize government, build inclusive pathways into tech, and use technology as a force for equity, and progress, and demonstrate Oakland's unique position in the Bay Area innovation ecosystem. "We need to harness Oakland's incredible tech talent to address our city's greatest challenges - from public safety to illegal dumping to homelessness," said Mayor Barbara Lee. "Oakland Tech Week is about more than celebrating innovation; it's about channeling that innovation toward solutions that improve the daily lives of Oakland residents. Our tech community has the creativity and expertise to help us build a safer, cleaner, greener, and more equitable city." Oakland Tech Week Oakland Launches Inaugural Tech Week to Showcase City's Tech Industry

Oakland Tech Week is under way and whoever thought of it, while it has a few misses here and there, it's a good start. One main something is that the discussion of "tech" in Oakland should be daily, weekly. The reason is that in today's culture, everything is tech to some degree; how we do things is now impacted by creations based on new technology and primarily to scale - which is another way of saying get to a lot of people in a short time. How one solves that problem is by coming up with a tech event. That should be a year-round project. But, for now, let's look at the first Oakland Tech Week. OAKLAND, CA - Mayor Barbara Lee today announced the launch of Oakland Tech Week. Oakland’s first Oakland Tech Week is a week-long exploration of technology, innovation, and solutions, November 17 - 21, 2025, bringing together builders, entrepreneurs, technologists, artists, students, and community members to showcase Oakland's emergence as a major Bay Area tech hub. The week-long event will feature networking sessions, panel discussions, pitch competitions, hands-on workshops, and community gatherings across multiple Oakland venues. Oakland Tech Week aims to connect leaders from all levels who are working to modernize government, build inclusive pathways into tech, and use technology as a force for equity, and progress, and demonstrate Oakland's unique position in the Bay Area innovation ecosystem. "We need to harness Oakland's incredible tech talent to address our city's greatest challenges - from public safety to illegal dumping to homelessness," said Mayor Barbara Lee. "Oakland Tech Week is about more than celebrating innovation; it's about channeling that innovation toward solutions that improve the daily lives of Oakland residents. Our tech community has the creativity and expertise to help us build a safer, cleaner, greener, and more equitable city." The event has garnered support from across Oakland's business, education, nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, reflecting the city's collaborative approach to economic development. “Oakland's creative energy comes from our makers, our artists, and our community," said Bosko Kante, Co-Founder, HiiiWAV. "Transformative innovation happens when technology and human creativity come together to serve people.
