Advice For Startup Founders: Don't Be Bullied By Venture Capitalists Before They Invest
I have seen it many times: a person who is a venture capitalist will use their title to bully startup founders before they have put a single dime into the company. That person will try to intimidate you, tell you your product is worthless, blast every aspect of your approach, and all in an effort to have you begging for their money. That person may even yell at you. That is where you must cut ties. Unless a person or company has a substantial amount invested in your firm, you can't allow such bad behavior. I can tell you from experience that such people will piss off your partners and staff and make life hell on Earth. If you let them. Don't be afraid to push them out. Also make sure you lay down solid contracts that govern your relationship - it's for your own good and the good of your firm. Stay tuned.
